Atlanta Gas Light teams up with The Langdale Company
ATLANTA – July 23, 2013 – The first compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station developed under the Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) CNG Program is now open in Valdosta, GA. Approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) in 2012, the program is designed to expand public access to the CNG fueling infrastructure throughout the state and enhance Georgia’s role in the emerging CNG market in the southeastern U.S.
What is a CNG Vehicle?
It's a vehicle powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), an increasingly-available alternative to gasoline. These vehicles also are referred to as Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs).
Urban transportation is a leading cause for poor air quality. Environmentally conscious individuals are looking hard at NGVs as an energy efficient, cleaner alternative to gasoline vehicles, and many corporations, governmental agencies and other institutions also can benefit greatly by incorporating natural gas vehicles into their fleet plans.
Can my existing fleet be converted to CNG?
Absolutely. Several vehicle manufacturers offer NGVs directly from the factory, and EPA-approved conversion systems are available for many different vehicle makes and models suitable for your fleet. We have provided the following links for your convenience:

What is the cost comparison of CNG vs. Gasoline?
Natural gas is sold by the therm. It takes approximately 1.25 therms to equal a gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE). For example: if the cost of natural gas were $1 per therm, it would be $1.25 per GGE at the pump. Now compare that to today's cost of gasoline!
There typically is no difference in fuel economy between a CNG vehicle and a gasoline vehicle - if you get 25 mpg with gasoline, you would average 25 miles per GGE with natural gas.
How do you fill an NGV?
At CNG stations, the gas is typically taken from the local gas utility's line at low pressure, compressed, then dispensed into the vehicle's storage tanks at high pressure. There are two basic types of fueling equipment: fast- and time-fill.
Fast-fill systems combine a compressor and a high-pressure storage system. The storage system enables filling the vehicle's fuel tank in about the same time it takes to fuel a regular vehicle.
Time-fill systems do not have a storage system and typically refuel vehicles overnight.
Public CNG stations are currently limited but are starting to become more available. Individual consumers may also choose to install their own CNG fueling stations.
